Dr. Daniel P. Wasserman

During his second year of residency, he received the Chandra Vedak, MD Collegiality and Humanism Award, given in recognition of going the extra mile for fellow residents. In his final year he served as Chief Resident of Academic Affairs, a role centered on the education and professional development of residents. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in his fourth and final year of residency, and later became board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Wasserman serves as Chair of the Early Career Psychiatrists group for the Illinois Psychiatric Society and sits on the IPS Council. He cares deeply about where the field is headed and the people entering it.

During training, he became increasingly interested in how factors beyond medication shape mental health outcomes: sleep, nutrition, movement, and how people actually live day to day. That interest informed the founding of Synapse and Soma Mental Health. Patients deserve a psychiatrist who has the time to actually know them, and this practice was designed around that belief.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Wasserman is a former professional photographer who still eagerly picks up his camera at every opportunity. Capturing moments of light both near and far, he enjoys everything from nature and landscape photography to astrophotography, including imaging deep space objects like the Orion Nebula. He has always had a curiosity for the world around him and a deep desire to understand how things work. From rebuilding computers to doing his own car repairs, he takes on challenges and sees them through, a tenacious spirit he brings to the practice of medicine as well. He enjoys staying active through long walks, running, and cycling, and has a particular fondness for classic films and a wide taste in music.
