Psychiatry for Mind and Body
Evidence-based psychiatry, psychotherapy, and integrative wellness tailored to you as a whole person
Synapse and Soma
The connections between neurons — where thoughts, mood, and behaviors are processed and take shape.
The body — the physical self that sustains you, and the essential foundation on which everything else is built.
Together, the name reflects what this practice is built on. You are a whole person, and caring for your mental health means attending to all of it: not a symptom or a diagnosis alone, but the full picture of how you live and how you feel. Seeing that clearly is the heart of the work here. This is psychiatry that takes the time to actually know you.
Care that begins with you
Psychiatry works best when it has room to breathe, when there is time to understand not just the symptoms, but the person living with them. At Synapse and Soma, every appointment is built around that principle.
Appointments are structured to give you the time you need, not the time that remains after the last patient ran over.
Mental health does not exist in isolation. Sleep, nutrition, movement, and relationships all shape how we feel, and they all belong in the conversation.
Treatment decisions are grounded in clinical evidence, thoughtfully applied to your specific circumstances, not by formula.
Services
Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management
Comprehensive evaluations that go beyond symptom checklists, followed by ongoing medication management tailored to you, with appointments available when you actually need them.
Psychotherapy
Whether you are already working with a therapist you trust or looking for psychiatry and therapy in one place, care is structured around the approach that fits your life and your goals. Collaboration with outside providers is always welcomed.
Integrative Psychiatry
Attention to the lifestyle factors that conventional psychiatry often overlooks: sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress. These have an outsized impact on how we feel and function.

Daniel P. Wasserman, MD
Dr. Wasserman completed his psychiatric residency at Rosalind Franklin University, where he served as Chief Resident of Academic Affairs. A graduate of Loyola University Chicago and Rush Medical College, he has trained in Illinois throughout, and his dedication to the communities he serves is rooted here as well. He provides thoughtful, comprehensive care for adults navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and complex mood disorders, with a focus on how these challenges impact daily functioning and quality of life. He believes the best outcomes start with seeing the whole person — not just a set of symptoms, but the full picture of someone's life.
That conviction is what led him to found Synapse and Soma, a practice built on the premise that good psychiatric care requires time: time to listen, to understand context, and to treat the person rather than just the diagnosis. His work is collaborative by default — the people he sees know the reasoning behind every recommendation, and decisions are made together.

Self-Pay Practice
Synapse and Soma is a self-pay practice by design: no prior authorizations, no administrative constraints, and no third party involved in your care. Just a direct relationship focused entirely on you. Fees are discussed during your complimentary 15-minute consultation, with separate rates for the initial evaluation and follow-up appointments.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement
Many patients with PPO or out-of-network mental health benefits are able to seek partial reimbursement from their insurer. Superbills are available upon request, a detailed receipt with everything your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim.
